The Questions

1: What book are you reading?

As I’m writing this blog post, I actually finished Reflection: A Twisted Tale by Elizabeth Lim a few minutes ago. I picked it up from my local bookstore and read it in one sitting. It tells the story of Mulan starting off from the avalanche scene in the movie but instead of her getting slashed by Shan-Yu, Li Shang takes the blow for her and is left critically injured. Mulan and Shang’s guardian, ShiShi, must travel through the Underworld to save him. I loved reading it and I’m definitely going to write up a book review about it sometime soon.

2: What song/s have you playing on repeat recently?

Honestly my music taste is pretty much stuck in the 90’s, 2000’s and early 2010’s. Oh, and I listen to a lot of boy bands. Anyways, I’ve been listening to Like I Can by Sam Smith and 8TEEN by Khalid. As well as lot of 98°, especially the song Give Me Just One Night ( Una Noche ), True To Your Heart, and a few other songs from the Revelation album. As well as One Direction, namely Hey Angel, End of the Day, and Love You Goodbye from the Made In The A.M. album and Truly Madly Deeply, Irresistible, and Magic from the Take Me Home album ( Expanded Edition ).

3: How do you stay motivated?

I like to look at motivational quotes online ( especially on Pinterest ) and set them as my phone wallpaper for a daily reminder. I also like to listen to positive music and definitely remind myself of the positive words my friends and family would tell me. I also like to remind myself of the things I love to do such as blogging to help me stay motivated as it keeps my spirits up.

4: What tip would you give to anyone trying to get out of a writing slump?

For blogging, I like to look at blog posts that are in my niche areas which are fashion, beauty, and lifestyle ( as well as a few others ) for inspiration. I also like to make a list of blog posts I want to write so that I always have an idea. For writing stories, I like to read books and try my best to write at least a few words a day ( even if it’s simple as one word or two ). Don’t try to force yourself to write if you’re really unmotivated, it’s always nice to take a break every once in a while!

5: What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given?

I’ve definitely come across my fair share of advice throughout the years but I remember my Mom telling me that I shouldn’t care too much about pleasing people and trying to fit in with the crowd since I will end up unhappy and doing things I don’t like. I was quite the people-pleaser when I was younger and cared too much about what people thought of me but when I started Ancine’s Alley, I started becoming my own person and began to stop trying to fit in with the crowd. Of course I’ve had people make fun of me and my blog, but it didn’t matter because I was doing something that makes me happy.

I Nominate:

Isabella Kate @ According To Isabella Kate

Sairah & Vivian @ Iridescent Photo Blog

Maryam @ Infinitely A Daydreamer

Manasa @ Sincerely, Manasa

Beth @ Beth Lucy Blogs

Michelle @ michelle.blogss

Gianna @ Gianna & Gemini

Mills @ By Mills

Lana @ elysianlana

  1. Loved reading this post Francine!! I have also been listening to A LOT of One Direction lately!! Made in the A.M. is my favorite of all of their albums and I am just dreaming and wishing that they would all come back together and make more albums! 😦 And the advice your mom gave you, is one that my mom ALWAYS gives me!

    1. Yess! Made in the A.M. is one of the albums I’ve been playing nonstop! I’m just glad they finally released Irresistible, Magic, and Truly Madly Deeply 😁 what a coincidence! My mom used to tell it to me a lot more often when I was younger but she still tells it to me whenever I feel inadequate 🙈

  2. I love this!! You have such the best energy in your writing style! I also really liked your answer to 5 – I’m so glad that your mom told you that! I’m still a people pleaser, but can relate with your blog helping you break away from that!

    1. Aw thank you Meghan! Blogging has definitely helped me become my own person, although I still find myself trying to please others 🙂 however, it’s better than when I was younger — I found myself trying to fit in with the crowd so many times! I’m sure we’re both going to be happy with who we are without having to please others soon! ❤

  3. Lovely to learn more about you Francine! Thank you so much for thinking to nominate me. My music choice lately has just been various songs from Taylor Swift’s masterpiece of an album. Folklore is just so dreamy! I’m loving invisible strings and the last great american dynasty. It all feels so personal and heartfelt.

Also, I’m so glad to hear that your blog has helped you grow and become your own person- if you love what you do what others think doesn’t matter.

  5. Congratulations on your award Francine! I haven’t been reading books lately, maybe I should. I relate with you on the thought of overcoming the people-pleasing strategy. I made a lot of toxic friends because of that. Blogging is one of the many things that made me realize I need to value myself too. I loved reading this post! Have a great day! 🥰

    1. Thank you for reading! I definitely had my fair share of making toxic friends at a young age because I cared too much about that others thought of me. I’m just glad that blogging has helped me become my own person and discover myself! ❤ I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’ve definitely stopped caring about pleasing others! 😁
